There are some basic ideas that you should consider when planning for your
home. Incorporating these ideas into your home will make it better for you
and your family in the long term. Build to suit your
needs: Build a home that fits your lifestyle today as well as in the future.
Don't overbuild. Consider the living areas that are a necessity and those that
are a luxury. Try to make areas that can serve double duty. Build
within your budget: Pretty straight forward, build a home that fits your
budget but also suits your needs. Over building can cause you financial stress
for years. Build to last: Build
your home using quality materials and quality workmanship. Don't build sacrifice
quality in order to build bigger. Also, building to last can reduce your
maintenance efforts and costs in the future. Build to preserve the
environment: There are two types of costs to consider with your home; the
initial building cost and the annual costs for energy and upkeep. Try to find a
balance between the materials you use, their costs and their environmental
impact, and what the home will cost for energy and maintenance in the future. Build
for energy efficiency: Build your home energy efficient so that you will use
less energy year over year. Building an energy efficient home will only save you
money in the future. Energy costs will rise. Build a healthy
home: Build your home with materials that will not cause or aggravate
health issues. As we build our homes more energy efficient, we trap more
chemicals that we use inside our homes. Build a safe home: Build
your home so that it can protect you from severe weather as well as from human
caused problems.
